Willamette Valley Medical Center Celebrates $9 Million Cancer Center Expansion
December 6, 2023
Willamette Valley Medical Center (WVMC) today announced the opening of its $9 million expansion to the H.R. Hoover, MD, Cancer Center. The opening was celebrated with a ribbon cutting and small reception on Tuesday with leaders from WVMC, Oregon Oncology Specialists and Lifepoint Health, of which WVMC is a part.
“We are so proud to provide expanded cancer treatment access to our community and the entire region we serve,” said Michael Mulkey, WVMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO). “Cancer care is incredibly important to us at WVMC, because we are caring for our friends, our neighbors, our family members and our colleagues. It’s deeply personal. And with the opening of our expanded cancer center, including the addition of new technology, our specialists have some of the latest treatments and technology available to fight cancer.”
The cancer center expansion added two new exam rooms, provider offices and more staff workspace to accommodate the growth the program has experienced over the past few years. The project also added new treatment equipment, including a linear accelerator and CT scanner.
According to Aasheesh Kanwar, MD, Radiation Oncologist, “This new technology expands our ability to deliver high-quality, personalized, and accurate radiation treatments to patients in our community.”
The installation of the new linear accelerator brings some of the latest technology in radiation therapy, including surface guidance. The cancer center also added a new CT scanner with 4D imaging technology, metal artifact reduction software, and a wider field of view.
"This upgrade gives patients access to leading-edge radiotherapy treatments, typically only available at major medical centers,” said Aaron Sabolch, MD, Radiation Oncologist. “As a result, when a patient chooses to be treated here, they can have the utmost confidence in the quality of their care."
The project was made possible through an investment by the hospital’s parent company, Lifepoint Health. “This opening marks a significant step forward in our mission of making communities healthier, as we expand access to state-of-the-art cancer care for patients throughout the region,” said Jen Alderfer, President for the Western Division of Lifepoint Heath. “Lifepoint Health is proud to partner with Willamette Valley Medical Center to invest in the health of the Oregon communities we serve. We are excited to provide access to more specialized cancer diagnosis and treatment for patients right here in McMinnville and in the surrounding region. This project is just one example of how deeply we care about this community and how we are always looking for ways to better serve its needs. This is our ongoing commitment to you.”
