Willamette Valley Medical Center Nationally Recognized with an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade
November 10, 2021
Willamette Valley Medical Center received an “A” Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade for fall 2021. This national distinction recognizes Willamette Valley Medical Center’s achievements in protecting patients from harm and error in the hospital.
“Every day, our teams focus on putting quality and safety first,” said Lori Bergen, Chief Executive Officer at Willamette Valley Medical Center. “We are very pleased with this high mark, which places us among the top tier of hospitals across the country when it comes to patient safety.”
“Numerous leaders and staff dedicated countless hours to implement leading practices and ensure that our Leapfrog grade matches the high-quality care that we continue to provide our community,” added Kirsten Ferren, Chief Nursing Officer at Willamette Valley Medical Center.
The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, injuries, accidents and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“Everyone at WVMC should be very proud that their excellence has been recognized,” Bergen continued. “It reflects our commitment to delivering the best possible care to patients, families, and visitors and ensuring that everyone has a positive experience at our hospital.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harms to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“An ‘A’ Safety Grade is a tremendous achievement, of which this community should be extremely proud,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “I thank the leadership and workforce of Willamette Valley Medical Center for its commitment to prioritizing patients and their safety, especially during these trying times.”
