Willamette Valley Medical Center Opens Paid Internship Program

Willamette Valley Medical Center (WVMC), part of Lifepoint Health, in collaboration with the McMinnville Economic Development Partnership, has launched a paid internship program for individuals interested in the medical field. As one of McMinnville's leading employers, WVMC recognizes the importance of addressing the issues affecting the current workforce. This program invites paid interns to explore career opportunities within the hospital, offering guidance and support as they develop skills and gain valuable insight into various aspects of the healthcare industry.
The objective of this innovative eight-week program extends beyond immediate staffing requirements, aiming to promote a lasting enthusiasm for healthcare among interns and foster the potential for enduring, meaningful careers. Interns will work for fifteen hours per week, immersed in various areas of the hospital, supporting quality care and patient outcomes.
Throughout the internship, participants will meet with the directors of the units who will provide bi-weekly feedback on job performance and offer suggestions for improving employability skills. The available internships are in the following areas:

- Birthing Center/Short Stay
- Emergency Management
- Health Information Management
- Emergency Department
- ICU supplies Technician
- Senior Behavioral Health Rounding Assistant
- Physical Therapy Aid
- Patient Transport
- Operating Room/Materials Supply
- Admitting Representative
To be eligible for the program, participants must be 18–25 years old, have ties to the McMinnville community, and possess a strong interest in the medical field. The application process includes an interview, and selected candidates will be subject to a background check and drug screening. Additionally, they must attend new employee orientation.
Anna Hilts, Manager of Workforce Development and Education, emphasized the program's goal: “A hospital setting needs all types of positions to perform patient care. We offer a robust experience in many support areas that are vital to quality patient care.” She added that the program aims to help participants gain workforce experience and learn skills that will benefit them throughout their lifetime.
